Georgia (Economou) Carignan

peacefully passed away in the Lord on August 28, 2026.

Raised in the Orthodox church, from a young age she found her home in the beauty of the Church. She walked steadfastly in the light of the Risen Christ throughout her entire earthly life, embodying the love of her faith to everyone she met. Her presence added warmth and light and left a lasting imprint. Next to Christ, she cherished time spent with her family.

Georgia enjoyed painting, boating and hosting get-togethers. Her volunteer service led her to awareness of needs in the community. Graduating CCRI with a Human Services degree in Gerontology, she was a certified activities coordinator at St. Martin de Porres Center for many years, leading seniors in everything from field trips to Bible studies. She was instrumental in bringing the Green Circle program to Providence public schools.

Throughout her life, Georgia was known for her joyful, playful spirit as she made it her job to encourage others. She was known for her sweet disposition, generosity of spirit, and her faith. Indeed, Georgia will be missed by many.

Georgia was born in Pawtucket in 1939. She is pre-deceased by parents George & Angeliki “Angie” (Triantophilos) Economou, and her brother Charles (Elaine) Economou, as well as her beloved husband of 41yrs Gerald Carignan. 

She is survived by her daughters Lori (Mark) McClain, Carolyn Evangeline, and Lesley (David) Fastovsky, also grandchildren, Kate (Michael) Borrero, Jenna (Tyler) Morlong, Christian Frangos, Olivia Frangos, Naomi Fastovsky, and Marieke Fastovsky; additionally, by step-children Gerald Carignan, Douglas Carignan, Lizbeth (Alan) Clark, and Barbara Carignan (Craig Medwick).

The family is heartfully grateful for the devoted, skillful, and caring staff at South Kingstown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Continuum Hospice & Palliative Care.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, September 4, at 10am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Pawtucket. There are no calling hours. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Endowment Fund of Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation.
