91, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home, Bristol. He was the beloved husband of the late Aileen K. (Kirby) Dunn. Born in East Greenwich, he was a son of the late Gerard A. and Alice Dunn. Gerard was President of the former Swift & McNutt Demolition Company of Providence for twenty-five years before his retirement. He was a graduate of Providence College and completed his graduate studies at Northwestern University. Gerard was a US Navy veteran, serving three years in the Pacific Theatre as Captain of LCI (g) 406 during WW II. He was an avid reader and a collector of antique automobiles. He was a member of the Dunes Club, British Empire Club, Sons of Irish Kings, and the Delray Yacht Club. Gerard loved spending winters in Florida with his wife.
He is survived by his two sons, John Kirby Dunn of Narragansett and Gerard M. Dunn, Jr. of Seattle, WA. He was the grandfather of Sawyer Bartlett-Dunn, Hudson Bartlett-Dunn, Emily Dunn and Kaitlin Dunn. Gerard was the brother of Bernard Dunn of Virginia, Mary Hyde of Warwick, and the late Alice Hoey.
His funeral service and burial will be private. VISITING HOURS are respectfully omitted.
