Gertrude (Devine) Kavanagh

94, of South Kingstown, passed away on January 15, 2015 at Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in South Kingstown. She was the wife of the late Francis "Frank" Kavanagh. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Doyle) Devine, Sr. Gertrude worked as a secretary and Russian translator for the U.S. Marine Fishery Abstract, and then as a secretary in the Guidance Office at Hope High School for many years, until her retirement.
She is survived by her two sons; Michael Kavanagh and his late wife Ruth of Narragansett, and Stephen Kavanagh and his wife Teresa of South Kingstown. Gertrude was the cherished grandmother of Shaun and Caitlin Kavanagh and the great grandmother of Jillian Kavanagh. She was the sister of Elinor Clarkin of East Greenwich, and the late Mildred Ranshousing, Ethel Harris, Charles Devine, Jr., Henry Devine and Walter Devine.
Her funeral will be held from the Nardolillo Funeral Home, SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road (Rt. 1A), Narragansett on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Veronica Chapel, Boston Neck Road, Narragansett at 9:00 a.m. VISITING HOURS are Monday 5:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. Burial will take place in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
