104, of Cranston, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late James Merolla. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Benedetta (Porretti) Tatangelo.
Gilda was deeply rooted in her family’s legacy, having grown up in the setting created by her father, who opened the Standard Ring & Novelty Company in Cranston. She dedicated much of her life to the company, becoming a co-owner and working there for many years before ultimately retiring.
Beyond her professional life, Gilda was a pillar of faith and service within her community. She was a faithful member of the St. Mary’s Choir, and a dedicated CCD teacher at St. Mary’s.
Her compassionate nature extended into charitable work, participating actively in several charitable groups. Gilda found joy in simple pleasures as well, taking delight in trips to Foxwoods for BINGO games and the thrill of scratch tickets. However, her greatest joy was always being surrounded by her family. She treasured moments with her grandchildren and their spouses, cherishing every moment with her family. For her 104th birthday, Gilda’s heartfelt wish was to celebrate the milestone with her family—a wish that was lovingly fulfilled.
Gilda is survived by her loving children, James Merolla of Cranston, Raymond Merolla of Johnston, Anita Barbera and her husband Joseph of Cranston, her daughter in-law Sandra Faria of Cranston. Cherished grandmother of James Merolla and his fiancé Edna, Richard Enos, Michael Merolla and his wife Shaundra, Kimberly Gallucci and her husband Michael, Christopher Merolla and his husband Brian, and Trevor Enos and his wife Shannon. Adored great grandmother of Coraline, Genevieve, Michael, and Giovanni. Sister of the late Aldo Tatangelo, Guido Tatangelo, Eva Granieri, and Leo Tatangelo.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 14th, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. Burial will be held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
