a devoted father, respected tax professional, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026. Born on February 23, 1942, in Providence, RI. James lived a life marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering commitment to both his family and community.
James’s career was distinguished by his expertise and leadership in the field of corporate taxation. He served as Chief of Corporate Tax for the State of Rhode Island for two decades, a period in which he significantly contributed to the state’s fiscal policies and practices with unwavering integrity and professionalism. Following this esteemed tenure, he channeled his passion and knowledge into his own personal accounting firm, where he continued to assist many with their financial affairs.
His academic pursuits culminated in a Master’s Degree in Taxation from Bryant University, underscoring his lifelong commitment to education and excellence. Before embarking on his professional journey, James proudly served his country in the United States Army, an experience that shaped his character and work ethic.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, James found joy in simple and meaningful pleasures. He enjoyed frequent visits to Narragansett Town Beach, where he cherished the serenity and beauty of the ocean. He was an enthusiastic Boston Red Sox fan.
James was deeply proud of his role as a loving father to his children, Amy B. Cimino and Adam Cimino. His care extended beyond his immediate family; notably, he dedicated over ten years to the loving care of his mother, a testament to his unwavering devotion and compassion.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Giovanni and Chysoula "Sue" (Gionis) Cimino, as well as his brother John Cimino.
