He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Rita (Denardo) Salafia. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late James and Rose (Viola) Salafia of Providence and brother of the late Joseph E. Salafia Sr. of Middletown, RI. Survived by 3 sons, James Jr. and wife Anne Baldridge of St. Croix, USVI; Michael Sr. and wife Karen Salvatore of Saunderstown, RI, and their sons, Michael Jr., and James Vincent of Orlando, FL, Robert and wife Pamela Rice and their daughter, Maya of Arlington, MA.
A proud Navy veteran, he served in WW II aboard the Cruiser Class USS Brooklyn for 4 years. His ship made many crossings of the North Atlantic. He saw action in the Mediterranean during the invasions of Palermo, and Naples. James and his late brother Joseph were 2nd generation owners of Clarke Flower Shops, and Cushing Realty on Thayer St. in Providence.
He was a charter member of the Alpine Country Club; a member of Wanumetonomy Country Club; and a communicant of St. Mark Church in Jamestown for 35 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown on Wednesday, November 30th at 10 a.m. , followed by burial with military honors at St. Mark Cemetery, Jamestown.
