94, of Barrett Ave., North Providence, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Golden Crest Nursing Center in North Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Violet (Vartanian) Ananian. Born in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Charles and Emma (Yavarian) Ananian, he moved to North Providence in 1947.
Jasper was a letter carrier for 37 years retiring in 1987 and was a member of National Association of Letter Carriers #15, Providence. He was a WW-II U.S. Navy Reserve veteran serving with the Seabees at Quonset Point, RI and in the Aleutians, Hawaii and the Philippines. He was an active member of Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church of Providence and was a past member of the Parish Council. He also took an active role in chairing and organizing picnics, bazaars and a number of many other events. For over 70 years Jasper gave his singing talents; first to Holy Trinity Church Choir in Philadelphia and later to Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Church Choir and also serving as Choir Chairman. In 1991 the Church honored Jasper as their "Father of the Year" and in 2015 as "Parishioner of the Year". He was the coach of the first ACYOA Basketball Team and Past Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Providence ACYOA. He was a member of the Knights of Vartan, Providence Chapter Arax Lodge #11, and Roger Williams Masonic Lodge #32.
Jasper was the devoted father of Charles J. Ananian of Mansfield, MA and Lucy Marie Droitcour of Cranston; loving grandfather of Jennifer Knowlton-Randall; loving great-grandfather of Olivia Leigh; and dear brother of the late Isabel Ananian and George Ananian. He also leaves his loving companion of several years Terry Pawlitscheck of Cumberland.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, Providence, followed by burial with military honors at North Burial Ground, Providence. VISITING HOURS are Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston.
