Joan F. (Folan) Schinse

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan F. Schinse, 86, who, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, has now continued her journey with God and her beloved daughter, Debra Ann.

Joan was born on May 4, 1939, in Providence, RI. Raised a devout Catholic, she attended St. Mary’s Academy–Bay View and, after graduation, worked in banking before later finding joy in driving a school bus for handicapped children. She also proudly served three terms as President of the Board of Directors for the Cranston ARC.

Joan was a devoted mother who cared deeply for her two daughters. She lovingly tended to her handicapped daughter, Debra Ann, with unwavering dedication, and cherished every moment spent with Donna, who was not only her daughter but also her best friend.

She adored her grandson, Shane, and often enjoyed watching Celtics games with him. Joan was incredibly proud to be a great-grandmother (“Oma”) to his two little boys, Hayden and Parker, who brought her endless joy. She loved to bowl, play cards, and share the “occasional Bloody Mary with her son-in-law Craig,” moments that always filled her with laughter and warmth.

Joan is survived by her husband, Conrad F. Schinse, with whom she shared 65 wonderful years; her daughter, Donna M. (Schinse) Pieranunzi, and her husband, Craig Pieranunzi; her grandson, Shane S. Hottin, and his wife, Mary (Loveley) Hottin; her two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Parker; and Craig’s children, Dean, Carl, and Alayna.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on December 13, 2025, at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 800 Pippin Orchard Rd., Cranston, RI 02921. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, 73 Church St., Cranston, RI 02920.
