71, of Barrington and Singer Island, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 29, 2016. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Janice (Wankiewicz) and Louis Ciaccia of North Providence. Joanne graduated from Rhode Island College with a BA in Fine Art. Joanne, a devout catholic, worshipped at St. Luke's Parish in Barrington for 40 years and frequently attended mass at the Carmelite Monastery. Because of her love of the arts, she began the Joanne Coia Gallery in Delray Beach, Florida as a resource for painters and sculptors. Joanne served as a Trustee on the United States Botanic Gardens, and was a supporter of the National Museum of Woman in the Arts in Washington, DC. As an avid traveler, champion dog breeder, golf enthusiast and devoted grandmother, Joanne lived life to the fullest. She cherished time with her family and friends, especially her four grandchildren. Joanne is survived by her sister, Rita Sorensen of Foxboro, MA; her daughter, Christen A. Corrente, and her husband Darren; her son Arthur E. Coia, II and his wife Jennifer Goodrich; and four grandchildren: Catherine, Nicholas, Caroline and AJ. Joanne was married to Arthur A. Coia for 43 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:30 am in St. Luke's Church, 108 Washington Rd., Barrington. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
