John C. Alfano

John C. Alfano

92, formerly of Cranston, Rhode Island, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at his residence in Harleysville, PA. He was the beloved husband of Edith (Buonacorsi) Alfano to whom he was married for over 66 years.

Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Luigi and Frances (Mattera) Alfano. John proudly served his country during WWII, as a 2nd Lieutenant, serving as a navigation officer in the US Army Air Forces on a B29. In 1945, he was awarded the Bronze Star.

After the war, he earned his Bachelors of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Rhode Island and was passionate about his work as a civil engineer.

John was the loving father of his son, the late Jack Alfano (wife Kathleen), and daughters Karen Maglaty (husband Joseph) of Lansdale, PA and Holly Perlick (husband Scott) of Mason Neck, VA.  He was a cherished grandfather to Jonathan and Marisa Maglaty.

John is also survived by three brothers, Benjamin, Mario, and Joseph. His brother Antonio, and sisters, Sue Johnson, and Esther Fucci pre-deceased him.

He was an avid reader, a great problem solver, and was always “calm, cool and collected” under pressure.  John was a remarkable man of great integrity, perseverance, and gentle character, as well as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered and loved always.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 9:45 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church, 237 Garden Hills Drive, Cranston, RI. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his son’s (Jack Alfano) memory to the Scleroderma Foundation at 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923.
