John D. Bassett

February 17, 1940 — January 11, 2023

John D. Bassett

82, of Cranston, RI passed away peacefully at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol on January 11, 2023. John was surrounded by his loving family on the days leading up to his passing. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to MuKwang Bassett.

Born in Providence and coming from a larger family who taught him a love for the outdoors, John enjoyed passing the time with his daughters and later his grandchildren fishing, telling classic “Dad jokes” and genuinely making everyone smile. A veteran of the Korean War, John met his wife while overseas and when they returned, he was the true definition of a provider. A passion for cooking led him to work as a chef much of his life post war. Supporting a growing family of his own, his selflessness was well known.

John was predeceased by his wife, MuKwang Bassett, daughter, Mary Machado, grandson, Danny Dextradeur, brother, Robert Bassett, sister-in-law, Genevieve Bassett.

He is survived by his daughter, Debora Marsh and son-in-law Robert Marsh.  His niece, Sun-he Fusco and husband, Jamie. His grandchildren: Michael Saccoccio, Cassandra Leathers and husband, Matt, Nick Machado, Carissa Abbey and husband Christopher. He was blessed with two beautiful great grandchildren, Killian and Addison Abbey. He also leaves behind his brothers: William Bassett and wife, Doris, Alfred Bassett, George Bassett and wife, Jane, Joseph Bassett and wife, Fran, Kenneth Bassett.

He will be missed, but greatly cherished and always in our hearts.

His VISITING HOURS will be held in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on January 22, 2023, Sunday afternoon, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.
