John J. Rainone, 89, of Cranston, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 1, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Annette (San Antonio) Rainone for 63 years.
Born to the late Joseph and Theresa (DeSantis) Rainone, John spent most of his life working in the upholstery business. He also worked part-time for the Decorator’s Sewing Shoppe and, prior to his retirement, was employed by the City of Providence Water Supply Board.
John was a longtime member of the Providence YMCA, where he formed many lasting friendships and was an avid handball player, proudly earning the nickname “Johnny No Gloves.” He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
He is survived by his son, Dr. John J. Rainone and his wife Laura of Virginia; his daughters, Lisa A. Fiano and her husband Domenic of Smithfield, and Jo-Ann M. DeCesare and her husband David of Johnston. He was a devoted grandfather to Julianne, Domenic, Sydney, Jennie, Jo-Ann and Jayme, and a cherished great-grandfather to Marlowe (Marlie).
John was the brother of the late Angelo (Bobby) Rainone and the late Jo-Ann Rainone.
His funeral will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rocco Church, Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Donations may be made to St. Rocco Church.
