of Coventry, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Ashland, WI he was a son of the late John Trombi and Emma (Anderson) Trombi Vick.
A true patriot, John enlisted immediately in the military after Pearl Harbor. Of course, he was under-age. The North African Campaign and the Landings at Anzio and Salerno were among his most notable 57th Signal Corps Battalion experiences. During WWII John met his future wife Jane in Rhode Island.
After the war, John took advantage of the new GI Bill, finishing high school and attending RI College of Education where he later received Ed. M. Secondary School Administration. John taught English in Cranston, became an assistant principal in Johnston, was URI Registrar of the Division of University Extension. As an educational specialist at the RI Department of Education, John pursued doctoral studies, earning his Ed. D. at Nova University. After retiring from the State, John was President of Education Specialists-Resource and Consultation Services, Inc.
Throughout his educational career, John manifested his patriotic spirit by serving in the RI National Guard and participating in veteran’s organizations.
He was a longtime member of the Tabor Franchi VFW Post and served as Commander of the North Coventry Post 7066. In later years was editor-in-chief and correspondent for the 57 Signal Battalion Association Newsletter. John and Jane loved attending military reunions.
John enjoyed foreign travel, history, war movies, genealogical research and above all family.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Jane (Saccoccio): two daughters, Mary Jane Ladouceur and Carolyn Trombi; four grandchildren, Mary Jane (Scott) Holland, James (Robyn) Ladouceur, Michelle (Cris) Gravel, Nicole (Mike) Moosey. He also cherished and adored his great-grandchildren Matthew, Devin, Ethan, Eden, Michaela and Sammy who loved their Grandpa and Papa in return.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will be in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS Thursday 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to RI Veterans Home , 480 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, RI 02809.
