John A. Vartebedian

John A. Vartebedian, “Johnny V” age 92 of Cranston, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on August 31, 2023, just shy of his 93rd birthday.

Born in Providence, he was the son of Alex and Amalia (DePetrillo) Vartebedian; brother of the late Alice and Rudolph Vartebedian; beloved husband of Jean Vartebedian of Cranston; devoted father of John R. Vartebedian of Magnolia, NJ. and Karen J. Vartebedian of Cranston; loving father-in-law of Theresa  Vartebedian of NJ; cherished grandfather of John F. Vartebedian (Amber) and Jennie Vartebedian of NJ; proud great grandfather of Crew Vartebedian of NJ; dear brother-in-law of Delia Cinieri of Cranston, and Michael Squillace (Dorothy) of Scituate; and loving uncle and cousin of many.

In 1960, John married the love of his life, Jean Squillace, after their paths crossed thanks to an introduction by their late brother-law, Michael Cinieri, who was John’s best buddy and closest friend. Happily married for 63 years, they maintained an unbroken bond of love and devotion.

John began his 45-year work career in the jewelry business as a supervisor, first at Coro’s in Providence and later at Venue Inc. in Warwick until his retirement at age 62.

For those fortunate to have known him, John’s magnetic smile and personality, generous spirit, and unwavering love of family will forever be etched in their hearts.

Throughout his life, John had a passion for all things Sinatra, the Rat Pack, and Elvis, enjoyed soaking up the sunshine especially at the beach, and immersed himself in Egyptian arts and civilization. He  continued a strong commitment to health and fitness and remarkably was an avid weightlifter well into his 70’s. But above all else, his greatest joy in life centered around family.

John will be deeply missed and always remembered by his family as their teacher, advisor, natural leader, provider and protector. His legacy will always remain an inspiring testament to love and resiliency.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday September 6, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 1525 Cranston St., Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery. VISITING HOURS will be held from 9:00- 10:00 am at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hope Health Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence RI 02904 or any charity of your choice.
