John E. Wilson

85, of Johnston, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the Scallop Shell Nursing Home in Wakefield. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Eric and Virginia (Guarino) Wilson, and brother of the late Virginia D. Uva. Mr. Wilson earned his Bachelor of Education Degree at RICE, and his Master of Arts Degree at the University of Connecticut. He began his career as a teacher of English and Social Studies for Warwick Public Schools in 1957. He served as head of the English and Social Studies Departments at Lockwood Junior High School until 1971, when he became Department Head of English at Winman Jr. High School. John retired in 1990, spending most of his winters in Florida. He was also an avid reader and loved to travel. John is survived by his nieces Kathleen M. Rossoni and her husband Pasquale, and Elaine D. Uva, and their families, all of Johnston. His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS are Saturday morning from 9:00-10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Bellarmine Food Closet, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919.
