John Xanthakis

John Xanthakis

81, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, surrounded by his devoted family. He was the beloved husband of Carol (Pakuris) Xanthakis for fifty six years. Born in Kalamata, Greece, he was a son of the late Rev. Alexander and Presv. Vasiliki (Kokonis) Xanthakis. John was the owner and operator of several restaurants, a parishioner of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, and served as a board and choir member for many years. He was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. John enjoyed gardening, golfing, boating, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving children Valerie DiStaolo and her husband Nicholas of Cranston, Alex Xanthakis and his wife Denise of North Smithfield, George and Gary Xanthakis, both of Cranston. John was the cherished grandfather of Nicholas, Christopher, Gianna, Marissa and Alex, and great grandfather of Layla and Eliana. He was the dear brother of Mary Darzenta, Presv. Julia Longos, Rev. Constantine Xanthakis, Amy Polymeros, Anna Chronis and the late Voula Gerontoukos.

His funeral will be held from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral service at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial, with military honors, will take place in North Burial Ground Cemetery, North Main St., Providence. VISITING HOURS are on Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Ave, Cranston, RI 02920.
