Joseph C. Capone

JOSEPH C. CAPONE, 70, of Lincoln, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023 at Mass General Hospital in Boston.  He was the beloved husband for 48 years of Linda M. (Carabiniero) Capone.  Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Angelo and Lucy (Lautieri) Capone.

Besides his wife Linda, he was the devoted father of David J. Capone and his wife Keri of North Providence and Stefanie M. Bello and her husband Michael of Lincoln; dear brother of Robert A. Capone and his wife Susan of Cranston; and loving grandfather of Laura, Evan, Logan and Brayden.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Joseph graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1970 and attended Rhode Island College where he earned his degree in education.  He was employed as a math teacher by the Town of North Providence for 34 years before retiring in 2007.  At NPHS, Joseph began a lifelong journey as an ambassador of wrestling by starting the wrestling program at the school in 1974 where he remained the coach until 1985.  At that time, he began his career as a wrestling official that lasted for 37 years; refereeing middle and high school events. He founded the Lincoln Youth Wrestling Club and was instrumental in starting the wrestling programs at Lincoln Middle School and High School in the 1990s.  His contributions to wrestling were rewarded with membership in the RI Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2006 and the NE Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2014.  Outside of wrestling, Joseph enjoyed playing golf with his friends and family.  As a devoted “Poppy”, nothing was more important to him than spending time with his 4 grandchildren, whether it be attending their school or sporting events, biking, walking, or just hanging around the house.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 12th at 8:30 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ambrose Church, 191 School St., Albion (Lincoln) at 10 a.m.  Entombment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Mausoleum at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS are Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
