77, of Saunderstown, passed away at home on Thursday, January 25, 2018 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Difilippantonio) Ciabattoni. Born in Warren OH, he was a son of the late Luigi and Pasqualina (Gaetani) Ciabattoni.
In addition to his wife, Susan, he is survived by his loving son, Joseph C. Ciabattoni, and his wife, Christine, of Tiverton. He also leaves his brother Virgil Ciabattoni of Warren, OH, and the late Luigi Ciabattoni.
Dr. Ciabattoni graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1962 with a BS in Chemistry from John Carroll University, OH. He received his Ph.D. from M.I.T., in 1965. Dr. Ciabattoni was a Professor of Organic Chemistry at Brown University, from 1965-1973. During this period, he was awarded a Senior Fulbright-Hays Scholarship and attended the University of Padova in Italy. Dr. Ciabattoni, next attended Yale University 1973-76, where he received his MD degree. He completed his residency at RI Hospital and was a practicing Physician for over 30 years.
Dr. Ciabattoni was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening and cooking. He was known for his Famous Eggplant Meatballs and Pasta Sauce. Dr. Ciabattoni was a communicant, greeter and member of the Knights of Columbus of St Mark Church, Jamestown and a communicant of St. Thomas More Parish, Narragansett . He was an active volunteer of the Jamestown Community Farm. This kind, generous man will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 29, 10:00 AM at St. Mark’s Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown. Burial will follow in St. Mark’s Cemetery, Jamestown. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Tomorrow Fund, RI Hospital Campus, 593 Eddy St, Providence, RI 02903.
