90, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, FL. He was the beloved husband for 67 years of Mary (Kowalczuk) Parys. Born in Providence, a son of the late Walclaw and Marta (Kawlik) Parys, he lived in Johnston, RI for 65 years before moving to Vero Beach in 1989.
An alumnus of Providence College, Joe received his Juris Doctorate from Boston University Law School and retired after 33 years from Travelers Insurance Company in 1981. A veteran of WW-II, he served in the U.S. Navy with Fleet Air-Wing 7 in England. He was a member of the RI Bar Association. When he lived in RI, he was an usher at St. Thomas Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, served on the Finance Committee, and was past chairman of St. Thomas Boy Scouts Committee Troop 89. In Vero Beach, Joe was an usher at St. John of the Cross Church; was in charge of the Village Green Golf League at Dodge Town until it closed and then at Island Pines Golf Course.
Besides his wife, he was the devoted father of Joseph H. Parys and his wife Marie of Smithfield, RI, Carolyn J. Brandin of Boca Raton, FL and Paul G. Parys of Scituate, MA; loving grandfather of Sara, Gerard, Natalie, Paul Jr. and Hudson; and dear brother of Helen Zabilski of Vista, CA and the late John Parys and Victoria Godbout.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 10th at 10 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, 1525 Cranston St., Cranston at 11a.m. Burial with military honors will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS are THURSDAY MORNING from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
