Joey G., a longtime resident of Jamestown, passed away April 8, 2014 after a brief illness. He was the son of Jennie Gabriele and the late Anthony F. Gabriele, also of Jamestown. A graduate of LaSalle Academy, Joey grew up in Providence before moving to Jamestown in the 1970's.
Joey worked in the food and beverage industry at various restaurants in Newport and Jamestown including the Bagpiper, the Bay Voyage Inn, Ken's East Landing, the Inn at Long Wharf, Trish's TropiGrille, and most recently at Chopmist Charlie's in Jamestown. He excelled as a bartender, accumulating many friends along the way with his friendly and upbeat personality. He was a fixture at Chopmist Charlie's where he helped set up the nautical dAC.cor, and worked there as a bartender, host and manager for many years.
Joey was an avid Red Sox fan and loved to travel. He traveled around the world, but particularly enjoyed Aruba, where he was made an honorary citizen upon his 20th annual visit to the island a few years ago. He was also a great cook hosting many holiday gatherings for his family and friends.
Joey is survived by his sister Jean Gabriele of Narragansett, his brother Anthony F. Gabriele of Jamestown and his wife Karen, and his nephews Tony Gabriele of Cranston and Andrew Deacon of Narragansett. Joey's company, good humor, and unique outlook on life will be greatly missed by his family and friends, along with his ability to make any place he was "One Happy Island"
His funeral services and burial were private.
