Joseph "Leo" Gauvin

92, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at HopeHealth Hospice in Providence. He was the devoted partner of Kathleen Moretti for eighteen years and the beloved husband of the late Marie (Palumbo) Gauvin. Born in Providence, Leo was the son of the late Omer and Marie-Ange (Hamel) Gauvin.

A lifelong craftsman, he began working as an upholsterer in his youth and later established his own business, Colonial Upholstery. Even after retiring, he continued to share his skill and generosity by helping others well into his eighties. He also founded Colonial Associates, a successful real estate firm that he operated for many years before retiring.

Leo proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Germany for two years during the Berlin Wall era. Following his Army service, he continued his military commitment with the U.S. Air National Guard for four years. In his younger years, Leo enjoyed boxing. Later in life, he found joy in dancing and karaoke with Kathleen, working on classic cars, and, above all, being a devoted family man.

In addition to his partner Kathleen, Leo is survived by his cherished grandchildren, Daniel M. Gauvin and his wife Frances, Christopher Gauvin, and Derek Gauvin; his three adored great grandchildren, Daniel M. Gauvin II, Lilibet Gauvin, and Charlotte Gauvin; and his sister, Jeanne Leap. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, and Lurana Gauvin. He was predeceased by his two beloved sons, Leo “Butch” Gauvin and Daniel J. Gauvin, as well as ten brothers and sisters.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 14th, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by his Funeral Home Service at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
