It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Josephine B. Gemma (Lanzi), who departed this world peacefully on June 19, 2026 , just a day after celebrating her 93rd birthday. Josephine was surrounded by her loving family at Cedar Crest Nursing Home in Cranston.
Josephine was the cherished daughter of Arthur and Viola Lanzi, who instilled in her the value of kindness and community that she carried throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband Joseph Gemma of 67 years and her sister Lucille Lombardo, whose memories she held close to her heart.
Josephine leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth, survived by her children, Joseph Gemma, Sandra DeAngelis and her husband Anthony, all of Cranston, and Dr. JoAnn Koslowsky and her husband George of North Carolina. Her granddaughters, Stephanie and Sara DeAngelis, along with her great-granddaughter Isabella Mayberry, all of Cranston, will forever cherish the love and wisdom she imparted.
For many years, Josephine was a familiar and friendly face at the T.F. Greene Airport gift shop, where her genuine interest in people made every customer feel like a friend. Her career was marked by her innate ability to connect with others, sharing stories and laughter. Weekends were often spent in the joyful company of friends. Her vibrant personality and zest for life were evident in all she did.
A devout member of Saint Robert Bellarmine Church and an active participant at the Cranston Senior Center, Josephine’s faith and community involvement were central to her life. She was known for her generosity and creativity, demonstrated through her love for travelling with family, making dolls and crocheting outfits for the local children’s hospital.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 8:45am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS Wednesday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Josephine will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness and love. May she rest in peace, reunited with her loved ones in the embrace of eternal life.
