Josephine (Abbaticola) DeRotto

87, of Pascoag, formerly of Providence, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of sixty-one years to Samuel A. DeRotto, they were married on May 31, 1954. Born in Providence, August 7, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Annina (Zoglio) Abbaticola. Josephine was a communicant of St. Bartholomew's Church all of her life. She was an accomplished singer and was a former member of the St. Bartholomew's Church Choir, St. Anthony's Church Choir, Warwick Civic Chorale and others. She sang for numerous weddings and funerals over the years and also sang for the City of Providence, most notably for Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci's inauguration in the 1970's. She was employed by the former Brown & Sharp Manufacturing Company of Providence, she also worked in the administrative offices at Johnson & Wales University, and the Nickerson House in Providence. Josephine, or rather "Momma D" for whom she was known as, was a fabulous cook and baker and fed practically everyone, taking much joy in doing so. She also made doughboys for the St. Bartholomew's Feast & Festival over the years. Josephine will be missed but her family will carry on her traditions of kindness, working hard and welcoming everyone who comes into their lives. Besides her husband she is survived by her loving children, Joanne Boyer and her husband Bruce of Cumberland, and Michael J. DeRotto and his wife Danielle of Burrillville. Josephine was the cherished grandmother of Kristen, Brian, Rachel, and Samuel DeRotto, and Alexis Boyer. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Sebastian Church, 67 Cole Avenue, Providence. Burial will be private. VISITING HOURS Tuesday 4-8 p.m.
