58, of Providence, passed away peacefully at HopeHealth Hospice, Providence, on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 5:50am. He courageously battled cancer since 2017. Throughout his fight, he had been battling for the title experienced two periods of remission before his body could no longer tolerate chemotherapy. He was a remarkable fighter whose strength and resilience inspired everyone who knew him.
Po was a strong, kind, and generous soul who could light up any room with his presence. His contagious laugh and natural gift for storytelling brought joy to those around him. He was truly a people person—warm, welcoming, and someone others naturally turned to for support and guidance. Many remember him as one of the sweetest people they had ever known.
Born in Battambang, Cambodia, Po survived the devastating period of the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s. During that difficult time, he was only nine years old but took on the responsibility of caring for his siblings. Even at such a young age, he showed the strength and dedication that would define his life. He was always a provider and took great pride in caring for those he loved.
After escaping Cambodia, Po built a new life in Massachusetts. In recent years, he moved to Providence, Rhode Island. Throughout his life, he was known not only for his generosity but also for his intelligence and many skills. He loved painting, photography, and working with his hands, often taking on projects and fixing things for family and friends.
Po is survived by his beloved wife, Bethanie Choung; his children, Athena Deang, Jetra Deang, Reathana Laphor, and Rachana Laphot; his mother, Noun Yeoun; his siblings, Yam Choung, Yan Choung, Savy Choung, Pan Choung, Channa Choung, Phola Choung, Kennary Choung, and Molleda Choung; his in-laws; and many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory. He was predeceased in death by his father, Tak Chhum.
