former supervisor of special education for the Wethersfield Public Schools (CT), died on March 31, 2026.
Born in Providence, RI, daughter of the late Benjamin and Louise (Colavecchio) Cafaro; sister of the late Mary DiPaolo, Angelo Cafaro, David Cafaro and Evelyn Graziano, she had been a resident of Charlestown since 1987.
Mrs. Cafaro-Pease was in public school education for thirty-two years prior to retiring in 1987. She taught in the Warwick Public Schools and Johnston Public Schools before moving to Connecticut to develop a speech-language pathology program in the Wethersfield Public Schools. She was in Wethersfield school system for twenty-three years, first as department head of speech and language, then as supervisor of special education. She was the Past President of the Speech-Language Coordinators in Public Schools and Past President of the Connecticut Special-Language Association. Under her direction the Wethersfield Public Schools speech-language program was the first public school program in Connecticut to receive accreditation of services from the National American Speech-Language Association. She also developed on of the first speech-language programs for preschoolers in public schools in Connecticut.
Mrs. Cafaro-Pease was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College and Boston University.
In retirement, Mrs. Cafaro-Pease was active in local environmental issues and, at one time, organized a Concerned Citizens group in Charlestown that focused on the environment.
Mrs. Cafaro-Pease leaves two nephews, David J. Graziano and his wife Christine and Louis T. DiPaolo.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 10am in St. James Chapel, 2079 Matunuck Schoolhouse Road, Charlestown. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Hasbro Children’s Hospital or to RI Special Olympics.
