Maria A. Ettinger, born on January 23, 1944, in Providence, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, in Warwick, Rhode Island, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished daughter of the late Orlando and Evelyn (Perrotti) Caliri and the devoted wife of the late Milton Ettinger.
Maria spent many years of her professional life as a Pharmacy Technician at Miriam Hospital before retiring to dedicate herself to her community and family. She was a long-time volunteer at the Cranston Senior Center, where she created new friendships and developed lifelong bonds. Maria's warm, kind, and loving personality touched the lives of many, and she took great pride in her family and their accomplishments. A dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she fostered a nurturing environment that brought comfort and joy to those around her.
Maria had a passion for cooking, ensuring that her kitchen was always filled to capacity, often to feed an army. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she became well-known for her delicious Christmas cookie recipes, preparing countless trays for both family and friends. Her Christmas Eve dinner showcased her unique take on tradition, featuring a delectable spread that included veggie pizza, various pasta dishes, baked scrod, and baked stuffed shrimp, creating unforgettable memories for her loved ones.
In addition to her culinary talents, Maria was an avid collector of anything that featured strawberries, from decorations to dishes, paintings, and even bars of soap, which brought a touch of joy to her home. She also embraced her love for nature by taking classes to become a Master Gardener, and she took great pride in her beautiful and bountiful gardens.
Maria is survived by her son Christopher Ianiero and his wife Jonna; granddaughter Deanna Tilley and her husband Ronald; grandson Nicholas Ianiero and his wife Elisabeth and great-grandsons Ronald Tilley, Jr., Christopher Tilley, and Brantley Tilley.
She will forever be remembered for the warmth of her spirit, her unwavering dedication to her family, and the love she so generously spread throughout her life. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 854 Providence Street, West Warwick, RI, on February 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. Burial is private. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to Eden Hospice, 4040 Post Rd., Warwick, RI 02886.
