97, of Johnston, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2017 with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Francesco Riccio, they were married 60 years. Born on November 8, 1919 to the late Benedetto and Anna Maria Capitani. Upon arriving to America in June 1969, Maria was employed by Rich Paper Box and Jewel Case for many years until her retirement. Maria was a devout communicant of St. Rocco Church, and enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, baking and cooking, and also looked forward each year to making her homemade sausage.
Maria was the cherished mother of Benedetto Riccio and his wife Maria of Johnston, Speranza Pisaturo of Italy, Angelo Riccio and his wife Cynthia of Johnston, Rita Izzo and her husband Giuseppe of Italy. She was also the mother of the late Petrina Riccio and mother in-law of the late Giovanni Pisaturo. Maria is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. She was the sister of Archangela Navarra and the late Pietro, Angelo, Liberata, Antonia and Scolastica all of Italy.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 9 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Rocco’s Church, Johnston. Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Friday 4-8 pm.
