of Providence since 1970, formerly of Santiago, Villa Vasquez, and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Greenwood Rehabilitation Center in Warwick. She was the beloved wife of 63 years to the late Tomás A. Morel. Born in the Dominican Republic, she was the daughter of the late Manolo and Elena (Polanco) Rubio.
She was a dedicated homemaker. In the Dominican Republic, she was a Court Stenographer. Maria was an avid reader who followed world and local politics. She was a devoted Catholic and an active parishioner at St. Michael’s Church in Providence. She loved classical music, merengue and Spanish food. She ultimately enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends.
She is survived by her loving children, Teresa Stern and her husband Robert of Glocester, Elena Morel and Heidi Morel, both of Warwick, Eric Morel and his wife Sandra of Cranston, Betsabe Morel of New York City and mother of the late Thomas M. Morel.
She was the cherished grandmother of Simon, Jessica, Emmanuel, Lindsey, Alicia, Geoffrey, Christián, Sofía, Evan and the great-grandmother of Lyla, Sydney, and Sebastián.
She was the sister of Ángel Rubio, the late Manuel Rubio, and the late Teresa Conde of Dominican Republic.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s Church, Providence at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS are Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
