Marie R. (DePalo) Carnevale

(95) of Cranston, RI, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Cedar Crest Nursing Home. Marie was the cherished wife of the late Gerard A. (“Jerry”) Carnevale, with whom she was blessed to spend 67 loving years.

Born in Providence on September 2, 1930, to Antonio and Carmela (Verducci) DePalo, Marie grew up a proud Rhode Islander. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1948, she began working at the Industrial Trust Bank. After ten years, Marie left her position to stay home and raise her family. Once her children grew up, she joined the staff at the Cranston Public Library, where she worked until her retirement in 1988, following the birth of her first grandchild. Marie’s love for her family formed the deepest bonds in her heart.

Throughout her life, Marie was proud to support her community. For over twenty years, she volunteered with the Narragansett Camp Fire Girls. Later in life, she volunteered with the Cranston Senior Center, where she was also an active member. Marie was a devout Catholic and frequently volunteered at her church, Holy Apostles, where she served as a eucharistic minister.

Marie was an avid reader and a passionate sports fan, spending countless hours watching football, basketball, and tennis. Marie and her husband had season tickets to the Providence College Friars for many years and could often be spotted cheering on their favorite team.

Marie spent her last several years at Cedar Crest Nursing Home in Cranston, where she enjoyed many friendships. She and her family were filled with gratitude for all the staff, programming, and care that helped her live a fulfilled life throughout the years, with special thanks to Luisa, Bette, Scott, Liz, Greg, and Carmen for going above and beyond every day.

Marie is survived by her devoted children, Gerard A. Carnevale, Jr. (Cpt. CPD) of Cranston and Janice L. Montanaro and her husband, Arthur, of Cranston. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Jonathan Montanaro and his wife, Hollie, of Cranston; Lauren Nackel and her wife, Jenna, of Boston, and Daniella Carnevale and her fiance, Jordan, of Cranston; as well as loving great-grandchildren Luca Jon Montanaro, Maia Rose Montanaro, and Josephine Marie Nackel. Marie was the sister of Molly Gatti (Anthony) of Spring, TX, Anita Coia (late Ronald) of Lincoln, the late Frank DePalo (Irene) of Cranston, the late Pat DePalo of Cranston, and the late Henrietta Carnevale of Cranston. Marie leaves behind a large and loving family, including many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
