Marie E. (Laboissionniere) Sylvestre

March 25, 1942 — May 19, 2017

Marie E. (Laboissionniere) Sylvestre

75, died May 19, 2017. She was born in Providence, RI the only daughter of the late Hilaire and Eva (Pelletier) Laboissionniere. Her mother raised her after her father made the ultimate sacrifice for our country in WWII in October 1944 when she was just two. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and elementary school and Saint Xavior Catholic High School (Class of 1959) both of Providence, RI.

On July 28, 1962, she married her elementary school sweetheart Richard A. Sylvestre, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Providence, RI. Richard preceded her in death shortly after their 25th Wedding anniversary on December 2, 1987. They have four children and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Sylvestre, known affectionately as Cookie, Sam, Boo and Auntie was known for her joyful and giving ways!  Devoted to her mother and family, Elaine was a stay-at-home mom and eventually long time home daycare owner and operator.  She was a champion of Christ and Catholic schools. She and Richard sacrificed to ensure their children attended Catholic Schools from first through twelfth grade. For many years, she worked tirelessly to raise capital for Saint Matthew Catholic School and devoted her days there as a parent volunteer and after school daycare staff even long after her youngest child graduated. Once your friend always your friend; she actively organized socials while living at Budlong Manor in Cranston, RI, maintained friendships from her earliest days, spent countless hours organizing many high school and elementary class reunions and regular family and friend gatherings too!   Without so much as a question, she selflessly extended hospitality to all and opened arms of aid to those in her path in need. All who knew her were blessed by her penchant for uncontrollable laughter!

She leaves behind her four children: David Sylvestre of Wallingford, Connecticut, Diane Reed of San Diego, California, Denise Newman of Denver, Colorado, and Daniel Sylvestre of Plymouth, Massachusetts, as well as their spouses and children.

VISITING HOURS will be held on Tuesday 4-8 p.m. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Matthew’s Church in Cranston, RI at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24th.  Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
