Mario Bruno Ugo Assante
92, passed away peacefully at his home on August 8, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Rose Pisani Assante of Providence. Born in Monte Cassino, Italy, on August 21, 1932, he was the son of the late Angelo Assante and Elvira Messidoro.
Mario is survived by his loving children, Mario A. Assante, Elvira Iacampo, Debra Kennedy and her husband Ronald, and cherished granddaughter Amanda Khalil. He was the brother of the late Maria, Eva, Lidia, and Enzo Assante. He is predeceased by his Shih Tzus, Bruno, and Shadow.
In 1953, Mario was employed as a barber and later opened Mario’s Barber Salon in Providence. He served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge on March 25, 1962. In addition, he established Continental Coin & Jewelry and Muba Realty Inc. and worked until the age of 86.
Mario was a devoted family man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He worked seven days a week and always gave his family and friends a helping hand. He was the embodiment of the American Dream. Mario once said, “The proudest moment of my life was the day I became an American citizen.” His life was one of determination, perseverance, loyalty, love, and strength.
Mario took great interest in collecting stamps and coins. He was an avid Lazio soccer fan and coached one of the first women’s soccer leagues in Providence, RI. Mario enjoyed traveling to Monte Cassino, Italy, with his children, but lived for the simple life: Sunday dinners, and 24/7 soccer games on TV.
His funeral will be held on Thursday August 14, 2025 from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Johnston. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. VISITING HOURS are 9:00 am - 10:00 am.
The family would like to thank Mario's personal caregivers and the staff at Harmony Hospice for their compassion and care during this difficult time.
