74, of Cranston, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Antonio and Raffaela (Napolillo) Calabrese.
Mario was an electrician working out of Union Hall Local #99 IBEW for 40 years before retiring in 2001; he was employed by C&W Electric for 36 years and by Leddy Electric Company for 4 years with the majority of his career spent as the lead electrical superintendent at the former Fleet National Bank located at 111 Westminster St., Providence. Mario also spent many years as a bartender at the former Great House on Post Rd. in Warwick. Mario was the founder and secretary of the West Cranston Athletic Club Bowling League for 35 years. He was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Choir for 43 years and served as a cantor for many of those years.
He was the beloved father of Cheryl A. Calabrese of Wallingford, CT, Tammy L. Calabrese of Narragansett, and Kristen D. Olson and her husband Michael J. of Cranston. He was the cherished grandfather of Michael Calabrese, who Mario assisted in bringing up, also Jeannine LaGrow, Allen Calabrese, Christopher LaGrow, and Jared Olson, and the great-grandfather of five. He was the brother of the late Carlo Calabrese and Joanne Quaranto and former husband of Virginia F. Calabrese of Narragansett.
He will be remembered by all as a good and decent man.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Wednesday at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Oaklawn Ave., Cranston. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS are Tuesday from 4p.m. to 8 p.m.
