Marion S. Elmore, a beloved father, grandfather, and cherished member of the community, peacefully passed away on March 20, 2026, in Johnston, Rhode Island. Born on January 20, 1937, in Rushville, Indiana, Marion’s life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and the enduring spirit of a true family man.
A proud and honored career US Navy veteran, Marion served his country with unwavering commitment for over 20 years, from 1955 to 1975. His years in active duty were marked by discipline, courage, and an unyielding sense of duty that inspired all who knew him. Beyond his service, Marion was a man of many passions. He found immense joy in his family, cherishing every moment spent hiking and exploring the great outdoors with his loved ones. His heart belonged equally to the ocean’s endless horizon, the simple delight of ice cream, and the exhilarating game of basketball—a sport in which he once shone brilliantly, clinching a high school state championship that remained one of his proudest accomplishments.
Marion’s journey through life was enriched by his devoted family. He was a loving father to his daughters Deborah Lynn Stephens, Tonia Louise Elmore, Julie Alexander Elmore, Jennifer Mather, Tara Jorgensen, and Naomi Prestly, each carrying forward his legacy of kindness and resilience. He was the dear brother of Roy Elmore and his wife Doris. He also has the cherished memory of his late father Sylvester Elmore, mother Ruby Clift Elmore, wife Ruth Ann Smith, brother Lloyd Elmore, and sister Thelma Elmore, who all passed before him.
Family blossomed under Marion’s gentle guidance and care: 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren remain a testament to his enduring love and the foundation he laid. His presence was a steady anchor, a source of strength, joy, and wisdom that his family will carry in their hearts forever.
