Martha Cynthia (Paolo) Gagnon

Martha Cynthia Gagnon, age 77, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Providence, RI to Domenic & Elizabeth (Zangari) Paolo, with a heart full of warmth and a passion for caring for others, Martha—affectionately known as “Auntie Cindy” by many—touched the lives of everyone she met with her kindness, humor, and selfless spirit.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, whom she loved unconditionally. Martha was the beloved wife of Walter Gagnon, with whom she shared 57 beautiful years of marriage. Together they built a life rooted in love, strength, and devotion. She was a proud and loving mother to her two daughters, Kimberly, and her husband Steven DiCenso, and Kristen Gagnon. Her heart overflowed with pride and joy being Nana to her grandchildren, Juliana and Anthony DiCenso, who brought light and laughter to her days.

A master in the kitchen, Martha was especially known for her holiday cookies, which became treasured traditions among family and friends. Her baking was more than just delicious—it was a heartfelt expression of her love. She was predeceased by her dear brothers Robert Paolo, Thomas Paolo, and Raymond Paolo, and she carried their memory with her always. Martha’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those who stood by her with love and unwavering support—especially her niece and nephew, Donna and Greg, her cousins Jean, Lisa, and Dianne, and her sister-in-law Donna.

Your presence, care, and compassion meant the world to her and brought comfort during the most difficult times. The family also wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to Martha’s incredible medical team for their dedication, compassion, and support throughout her journey. Special thanks to Dr. Dizon, Dr. Bandera, Dr. Lopresti, Brittany, Christine, Donna, Rachael, Natalie, Melissa, Lindsay, and all the wonderful nurses and staff at The Miriam and RI Hospitals. Your care brought comfort and strength to both Martha and her family. Martha’s legacy of love, resilience, and warmth will continue to live on in all who knew her. Her family will miss her deeply, but take comfort in knowing she is at peace.
