99, of Westhill Circle, Cranston, passed away Thursday, May 28th at St. Elizabeth Greenhouse Homes, East Greenwich. She was the daughter of the late Virginia (DiStefano) Cestrone and Vincenzo Cestrone. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Salvatore Criscione, her brother John Cestrone and her sisters Rita Imondi and Albina Turtle. She is survived by her four sons, James, David, Thomas and Steven, as well as her nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Born April 11, 1927, in Providence, Mary graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1945.
Following high school, she worked for the Law Office of John O. Pastore. That same year, John was elected Governor and Mary went to work as a clerk within the Attorney General’s Office until 1953, when she married.
In 1956, she went back to work at the Glen Hills Elementary School Guidance Department as a secretary. Later, in 1978, she transferred to Cranston High School West and then on to Cranston West Middle School until her retirement in 1989, at age 62. Still remaining active, in 1995, she volunteered her time as the Secretary to the Advisory Board for the Cranston Senior Center.
At 90 years young, she remained active, travelling, driving to Zumba class at the YMCA and playing BINGO with her friends. Just this past year she continued to enjoy BINGO, playing SCRABBLE, arts and crafts, engaging with friends and relatives and going to plays and concerts.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd, at 10:00 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston. Burial will be held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Wednesday morning from 9:00-10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Greenhouse Homes Activities, Business Office, 1 St. Elizabeth Way, East Greenwich, RI 02818.
