Mary C. Lapati

Mary C. Lapati, 98 of West Warwick, formerly of Cranston, passed away on Monday September 28, 2026, with her family by her side. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Pellegrino and Angelina (Armenti) DeSimone. She was the beloved wife of the late John Lapati, Sr.

After completing high school, she went to find great fulfillment in her role as a medical assistant for many years prior to her retirement. Mary’s selflessness, determination, independence, strength, and fierce love were evident in her daily life. She made a beautiful impact on those she met even just once, making new acquaintances was something she did with ease, and joy. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family. The occasion didn’t matter whether it was simple dinners, outings, or elaborate holiday meals that she took great pride in cooking and baking. These were the moments she treasured. Her longevity and overall health can be attributed to her active lifestyle. She exercised daily until she was 90, she even was rumored to have taken up kickboxing.

Her family was always in the forefront of her mind, checking on her children and grandchildren was done often. Always offering a helping hand, a loving thought or a prayer. She was always just a call away and will be dearly missed.

Mary leaves her three children John Lapati, Jr. and his wife Lydia, Sharon Jackson and her husband Michael Maselli, and Susan Barlow and her loving partner Steven Mercurio. She was the grandmother of four grandchildren and their spouses, and the great grandmother of four. She was the sister of Ralph DeSimone and his wife Norma, and John DeSimone and his wife Carol. She was the sister-in-law of Anna Lapati and Lena Lapati. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson John Barlow, her siblings Stephen DeSimone, Carmino DeSimone, Matteo DeSimone, Josephine Lauro, and Anthony DeSimone, also her brothers-in-law Albert Lapati and Domenic Lapati.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday October 6, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 854 Providence St., West Warwick. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery.
