91, of Johnston, RI, formerly of Mashpee, MA and Warwick, RI passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Hope Health Hospice in Providence, RI. Born in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Cyril and Mary (Hackett) Grattan and sister of the late Elizabeth Grattan. Maureen was the beloved wife of the late John J. Wainwright for 66 years.
Maureen was a graduate of St. Mary Academy, Bay View, class of 1953 and attended RI College.
Maureen and John raised their family in Warwick, RI. Maureen was a Special Education Aide for the Warwick School Department, CCD teacher, active parishioner of St. William Parish for 40 years and devoted mother to their 5 children. After retirement Maureen and John moved to Mashpee, MA in 1998, enjoying over 20 years of Cape living. Maureen especially enjoyed beach days with friends and family, time with her grandchildren, shopping, and volunteering with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Maureen and John were daily communicants at Christ the King Parish in Mashpee, MA.
Maureen is survived by her loving children, Karen Smith (Brian) of Cranston, RI, John J. Wainwright, Jr. (Karin) of East Greenwich, RI, Karol Gardner (James) of Deep River, CT, James Wainwright (Katie) of Windsor Heights, IA and Paul Wainwright (Sandra) of Franklin, MA; twelve cherished grandchildren, Anthony Deorsey, Jr., Ashley Hendrickson, Amanda Ghiya, Emily Vergano, John J. Wainwright, III, Colleen Gardner, MaryHope Sears, Maureen Wainwright, Megan Wainwright, Patrick Wainwright, Maia Wainwright and Lilah Wainwright; and seven cherished great grandchildren.
VISITING HOURS will be Saturday morning, August 29, 2026, from 8:00a.m. to 9:00a.m. at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Ave, Johnston, RI. Burial will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
