It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael (Mauro) Carlino, 90, of Cranston, Rhode Island, who passed away peacefully at home, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Castelnuovo Parano, Frosinone, Italy, on September 29, 1933, he was the beloved son of the late Angelo Antonio and Elena (Ciacciarelli) Carlino.
Michael was the dear brother of Palmina Cristallo of Penitro, Italy, and Angelo Carlino of England. He was predeceased by his siblings Elisa, Rosa, Giuseppe, Vincenzo, Cecilia, Anna, Giacomo, Maria Assunta, Natale, and Maria.
He immigrated to the United States in 1958, at the age of 25, settling in Cranston where he built a life filled with love, hard work, and dedication to his family and community. He was a proud owner of a landscaping company and a devoted member of the Santa Maria di Prata Society and St. Mary’s Feast Society, where his Italian heritage remained close to his heart.
Michael was the loving father of twins, Michael Carlino and his wife Susanna of Johnston, and Mario Carlino and his wife Lori-Ann of Cranston. He was the cherished grandfather of Brianna Carlino-Mas, Angelica Gardner, Joanna Carlino, and Michael Carlino, and the proud great-grandfather of Siena Gardner and Luca Mas Carlino. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Giovanna Carlino, and is survived by his devoted wife, Rosa (Prodigio) Carlino.
A man of many passions, Michael was a gold medal winner in the senior games for bocce, a game that brought him much joy. His true pride, however, came from his family, especially when they gathered to enjoy his homemade wine. Winemaking was not only a tradition, but an expression of his love, as he delighted in sharing it with those he cherished, often making it alongside his sons and grandchildren.
A world traveler, Michael made many trips to Italy, Australia, and England to visit family, always treasuring these moments. He had a deep love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, ensuring that they always felt his warmth, especially at family gatherings where he proudly took his place at the head of the table. A passionate card player, he never missed an opportunity for a game of high-low-jack, where his skill and competitive spirit often left him victorious.
Michael lived a full and joyful life, marked by his dedication to family, his love of tradition, and his warm, welcoming nature. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
