Michael J. DiMauro, Ret. PPD

92, passed into eternal rest on November 8.  He was the husband of the late Antonetta (Rossi) DiMauro and son of the late Tomasso and Antonetta (Sabatino) DiMauro.

Mike was the devoted father to two daughters, Patricia Hairabet (John) and Michele Humbyrd (Dan) and “Grampy” to two grandchildren, Kristin Prochaska and John Hairabet and four step-grandchildren, Casey Humbyrd Grasso, Matthew Humbyrd, Chelsea Andrews, and Zachary Humbyrd.  He also enjoyed seven great grandchildren, London, Jude, Julia, Finn, Asher, Eleanor, and Jaxson.  He was brother of the late Joe DiMauro, Nancy Comella, Jim DiMauro, and Natalie Fascitilli.  He is survived by his sister Carmellina “Mille” Montante and many nieces and nephews.

Mike served in the army during WWII on the European front and fought in the Battle of Remagen.  He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star and was honored later in life by the French Legion of Honour.  Following the war, Mike worked as a Providence police officer for twenty-three years walking the beat on Federal Hill, riding a motorcycle in the traffic division, and working in the detective division.  Mike also had a long career as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in the Army Reserves.  Mike was a talented carpenter and worked for L. Sweet Lumber.

He retired to South Florida with his wife Etta but returned every summer to spend time with family, relaxing on the shores of Narragansett Bay in Saunderstown.  He was a fixture at his local gym in West Palm Beach, earning the title of “Iron Mike” on the weight machines at the youthful age of 92.

Mike will always be remembered as a hard-working, good man with a deep spiritual faith.  He was a gentle, steadfast man with wonderful wisdom and a great sense of humor.

The family would like to acknowledge the quality and compassionate care provided by the staff at Kent Hospital and St. Elizabeth’s Home in East Greenwich.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Veronica’s Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Rd., Narragansett.  VISITING HOURS are Friday from 4 – 7 p.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory-SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Rd. (Rt. 1A), Narragansett.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Elizabeth’s Home, 1 St. Elizabeth Way, East Greenwich, RI 02818.
