Michael T. Papigiotis, born on January 4, 1933, in Papingo, Ioannina, Greece, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, as well as a distinguished member of his community.
Michael dedicated 40 years of his career to Cumberland Farms, where he played an instrumental role in opening over 1500 locations from Maine to Florida. His dedication and hard work were truly exemplary, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and associates alike.A military veteran, Michael proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, demonstrating a commitment to service that reflected his patient, kind, and generous nature.
He exemplified the qualities of a true gentleman throughout his life.His love for his family was evident in the many memories shared at home, where he was known for hosting family gatherings and holidays where his roast lamb and Greek potatoes were a crowd favorite. Michael had particular talent for making any occasion special, always eager to entertain and bring people together. After retirement, Michael enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee almost daily and when the weather allowed, playing golf with his friends. He had a true appreciation for friendship. In addition to his love of golf, Michael was an avid sports fan following all Boston teams closely with special appreciation for his Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Throughout his life, Michael's generosity extended beyond his family and friends, as he was known for supporting his church. His involvement included serving on the Church Parish Council for 16 years, helping to organize and volunteering yearly at the beloved Greek festival, and acting as Vice President of the Senior Citizens group at church for many years. It was his great honor to receive the Metropolis of Boston Ministry Award. These accomplishments reflect not only his commitment to faith and community, but also his unwavering dedication to helping those around him.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Bessie (Psilopoulos) Papigiotis; his son, Theo M. Papigiotis; his daughter, Martha Harrison; his granddaughter, Alexa Fraser, and her husband, Matthew Fraser; his granddaughters, Claire Harrison and Ava Papigiotis; and his great-grandsons, Royce and Rowan Fraser. He is preceded in death by his mother, Martha (Papatheodorou) Papigiotis; father, Theofanis G. Papigiotis; and brother, Theodore T. Papigiotis.
Visitation will be held on April 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Nardolillo Funeral Home located at 1278 Park Ave, Cranston, RI 02910. A funeral service will be celebrated in honor of Michael on April 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Cranston. In Lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Endowment Fund, 175 Oaklawn Ave., Cranston, RI 02020. Michael T. Papigiotis' legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for his family and community will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
