MICHAEL A. SALVADORE, SR

79, of Graniteville, a business executive and conservationist, died September 20, 2013. He was the loving husband of A. Doris (Leone) Salvadore for 57 years. Born in Providence, son of Frances (Sexton) and Andrea R. Salvadore, he lived in Graniteville for 28 years. Mr. Salvadore was President of Salvadore Machinery since 1991. Much of his life was spent and devoted to Salvadore Tool & Findings, Inc. a company founded by his father in 1945 and became partner and vice president until his retirement in 1991. Additionally in 1976, he founded The Atlantic Company, Inc. which manufactured fashion jewelry for 34 years. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Salvadore had been very active in the jewelry industry, serving as president of the Manufacturing Jewelers and Silversmiths of America, the Jewelers Shipping Association and the World Brotherhood of Fashion Jewelry Manufacturers, headquartered in Mahon, Menorca, Spain. He was vice chairman and founding member of The Jewelry Institute, trustee of the Jewelry Foundation (the forerunner to today's MJSA Education Foundation), chairman and founder of Jewelers Political Action Committee, a member of the R.I. Legislative Pay Commission and chairman of the State Board of Labor Relations. In 1986, he was appointed to the Narragansett Bay Commission and has served as a commissioner continuously for five Governors. A strong supporter of the Roger Williams Park Zoo, he was elected to the RI Zoological Society Board of Directors in 1990, served as its chairman from 1991-1992 and became a Trustee Emeritus in 2003. He was a member of the Rhode Island Commodores. A passion and love for art, the outdoors and politics, he was an avid art collector and a member of the Providence Art Club; honorary member of the Smithfield Sportsman's Club and its Executive Committee; Amateur Trapshooting Association; Endowment Member of the National Rifle Association and honorary member of the R.I. Republican Party. He loved birding, dogs and hunting and enjoyed the backcountry of Tioga, PA for 45 years. He is survived by his wife Doris, son Michael A. Salvadore, Jr. and his wife Tracey of Narragansett, daughters Judy Salvadore and her husband Bob Cazzani of Saunderstown and Dana Salvadore and her husband Jim Cazzani of East Greenwich, as well as four granddaughters Emerson Cazzani, Cloe Cazzani, Natalia Salvadore and Jacqueline Salvadore. He was predeceased by his son Mark A. Salvadore. His funeral will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence. Burial of his cremains with Military Honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville, R.I. VISITING HOURS will be on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Michael A. and A.
