Mollie H. (Nevitt) Cunningham, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a lifelong resident of Narragansett passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 26, 1945, in Miami, Florida . Mollie lived a life dedicated to her family and her career.
Mollie was a proud graduate of Vernon Court College in Newport, where she laid the groundwork for her future endeavors. For 25 years, she served as a medical receptionist for Dr. McNiece and Dr. O'Leary, gaining the respect and admiration of both her colleagues and the patients she served.
Her family was her proudest accomplishment. Mollie cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, particularly during holiday gatherings that she meticulously hosted. She had a deep bond with her husband, John P. Cunningham, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter.
Mollie is survived by her children, Gretchen Babcock and her husband Frederick of Wakefield, Gregory F. Cunningham and his wife Camille of Voluntown, CT, Melanie J. Cunningham, and Eleanor E. Fontaine and her husband Kevin of Warwick. Mollie's legacy continues through her nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
Mollie was the cherished sister of Francis W. Nevitt, II and his wife Elaine of Wickford. She was predeceased by her son John Matthew Cunningham, her sister Robin Less, and her brothers John and Mark Nevitt. Her parents, Dr. Francis and Eleanor (Stevens) Nevitt, also preceded her in death.
Mollie was an avid reader and found great pleasure in spending time at the beach. She enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, including Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right, and True Crime, always looking forward to the next episode with enthusiasm.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Jannuary 23, 2025 at 10am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Her burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Wakefield.
