78, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Kent County Hospital, Warwick. He was the beloved husband of fifty-six years to Helen "Eleni" (Panteleakis) Psikakos. Born in Mani, Greece he was a son of the late Michael N. and Maria (Marioli) Psikakos. Nikolaos was a chef and self-employed restaurateur for forty-two years before retiring in 1998. He was a parishioner of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Besides his wife he is survived by his loving children, Michael N. Psikakos and his wife Elaine, John N. Psikakos, and Georgia N. Petropoulos and her husband Dr. Peter Petropoulos, all of Cranston. Nikolaos was the father of the late Konstantinos N. Psikakos. He was the cherished grandfather of Eleni Psikakos, Nickolas Psikakos. Dr. Thomai Dion and her husband Dr. Jonathan Dion, Anthansios Petropoulos, Esq. and his wife Christina Petropoulos, and Nikolaos Petropoulos and his FiancAC.e Gianna Vessella, and the great-grandfather of Alec Dion. Nikolaos was the brother of Stavroula Roidopoulos and the late Kyriakos Psikakos. As the eldest born, his father was killed during WW II when he was five years old. At the age of eleven, he worked on fishing boats journeying the sea world wide to support his mother and siblings. Seeking a better life, he immigrated to Norfolk, Virginia, where he then traveled up the east coast seeking work, landing first in New Bedford, Massachusetts, but settling in Rhode Island associating the state with the Isle of Rhodes and his country of Greece. Introduced to his wife, Eleni, through the Greek community, he raised and educated four children, and accomplished what he wanted most in life, which was a family. He most cherished to be with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandson. A self-made and very proud man, he passed on his life's learning and lessons through simple words as "honor your word", "be proud of yourself" and "never lie". Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston. Burial will be private.
