Palma E. (Ricci) Zampini

of Cranston passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the age of 90. Born on Palm Sunday, April 5, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Vittorio J. and Clara (Croce) Ricci and granddaughter of the late Gennaro and Jacqueline (Testa) Ricci and the late Raffaela (Pascone) Croce.

Palma was born and raised in the Thornton Section of Johnston and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Rocco Church where she was Baptized, made her First Communion, her Confirmation, sang in the Church Choir and eventually married.

She spent a lifetime doing volunteer work centered on fundraising efforts for the research of childhood disabilities and diseases. Palma was President Emeritus of the Woman's Youth League of RI; National Delegate and Past President of the Meeting Street School Auxiliary/Easter Seal Society of RI; Member of the National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation of RI; Member of the RI Arthritis Foundation where she was awarded the Foundation's Meritorious Service Award and Past President of The Community Service Salvage Shop (The Pennywise).

Palma was very proud of her Italian Heritage, keeping her family and friends close; a gourmet cook who loved to entertain; a stickler for proper etiquette and more importantly a person who never forgot where she came from.

A 1943 graduate of Central High School where she was Class President and a 1947 graduate of the former Bryant-Stranton Business College now known as Bryant University.

Palma met and married her High School sweetheart Gaetano "Guy" M. Zampini on June 12, 1948 and they remained married for 65 years until his death on April 17, 2014.

She is survived by her children, Guy M. Zampini (Adrienne) and Paula E. Zampini-Capozzi (Gerald C.) of Cranston; her siblings Eugene (Gene) V. Ricci (Natalie) of Cranston; Robert L. Ricci (Joan) of Johnston and Elaine A. Ricci, her youngest sister whom she thought of as another daughter, also of Johnston. Palma was predeceased by her sister Mafalda (Muffie) H. Quaranta formally of Cranston. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and many cherished friends.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rocco Church, 931 Atwood Avenue, Johnston at 10:00am, followed by graveside services at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS, Monday, August 24, 2015 from 4-8pm.
