Raymond R. Coia, Esq.

of North Providence, passed away, on September 21, 2026, at the age of 91. He was the husband of the late Andree Fleck and the former husband of the late Virginia (Keefe) Coia.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Umberto and Louise (Gianquitti) Coia and was a graduate of Providence College and Boston University School of Law.

Raymond built a distinguished career in law by first going to work as Chief Clerk to RI Governor John A. Notte, Jr. He then turned those skills, garnered in the governor’s office, towards private practice culminating in becoming the first Administrator of the Massachusetts Laborers’ Legal Services Fund, providing fundamental legal representation to Laborers. After decades of fulfilling service, he retired and moved to Stuart, Florida.

Raymond maintained professional and social affiliations in both RI and FL. He was a longtime member of the American Bar Association, the RI Bar Association, the MA Bar Association, Laborers Local Union 271, Kirkbrae Country Club, where he also served on the Board of Governors, and Willoughby Golf Club. He was an avid golfer, reader, and enjoyed going to the movie theater, pursuits that brought him lasting enjoyment over the years.

Raymond leaves a loving family who will remember him with deep affection and gratitude. He is survived by his daughter, Karen A. Coia of North Providence; his son, Raymond C. Coia, Esq. and his wife Robin Melfi Coia, of Cranston; his son Dr. David J. Coia and his partner, Carol Butler Thompson, of Johnston; and his daughter, Jacqueline M. Coughlin and her husband, James, of North Providence. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Raymond C. Coia, Jr. and his partner Kayla Ross; Niccolo R. Coia and his wife Gianna; Michael D. Coia and his wife Kayte; Rachel B. Holden and her husband, Bryce; Sarah E. Coia; Christopher J. Coughlin; and Corey J. Coughlin. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Valentino R. Coia and Domenic W. Coia. He was the brother of the late Pasqualina Petisce. Raymond also loved his grand-dog Charlotte.

His funeral will be held Monday, September 28, 2026 at 9am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church, 237 Garden Hills Drive, Cranston. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. VISITING HOURS, Sunday, September 27, 2026 from 4-8pm.
