Raymond A. Mendillo

age 90, of Cumberland, RI, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026 in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia “Pat” (DiSalvo) Mendillo. Born on April 3, 1936 in Providence, he was the child of Ernest and Anna (Ciorlano) Mendillo.

Raymond was a proud 1955 graduate of LaSalle Academy and served in the RI Army National Guard. Most notably, he and his wife Pat were known for opening a teenage nightclub in Woonsocket called the Mandelin. In addition, he was the proprietor of Mandel’s Limited, a men’s clothing store on Main Street in Woonsocket. Soon after, he became the manager of the local rock group “Northeast Expressway.” He ended his career working for the Lincoln School Department for close to 30 years.

Known for his big personality, “Papa Ray” cared about nothing more than to spend time with his family. His sense of humor was strong, and he was blessed with many friends in RI and Deerfield Beach Florida, where he lived the past 10 years. Ray had a deep passion for sports and was a three-sport athlete at LaSalle Academy, playing baseball, basketball and football.

Ray is survived by his son Tom Mendillo and his wife Emilie of North Attleboro, MA. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia and his daughter Marla Barrett. He is also survived by his sister Marie Saccucci of Cranston and predeceased by his brother Ernest Mendillo of New Jersey. He leaves five grandchildren, Marc Barrett, TJ Mendillo, Christopher Barrett, James Mendillo and Annie Mendillo. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Ray’s Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited, will be on Wednesday, September16th at 11 a.m. in Holy Apostles Church, 800 Pippin Orchard Rd., Cranston. Burial will be private. VISITING HOURS are Tuesday, September 15th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Health Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
