Richard J. Butmarc

85, of Coventry, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Kent Hospital, Warwick. He was the beloved husband to the late Johanna (Wolf) Butmarc. He was born on the family farm in Cranston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Gelsomina (Barone) Abbatamarco. Richard was self-employed in the jewelry and display manufacturing industry for many years.

He was a US Army National Guard veteran, and a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. His dedication to service extended beyond his military commitments; he proudly patrolled the Narragansett Bay as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. 

Richard's interests were diverse and greatly enriched his life. A passionate enthusiast of classic cars, he was a valued member of the Cadillac Club of Rhode Island. He attended numerous car shows and won many top awards through the years for his classic vehicles. Above all, Richard cherished his family and had an affection for animals. He was a man whose presence brought joy to those around him, and he will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving daughter Suzanne Waltonen and her partner Roderick “Rod” Chappell and was predeceased by his stepson Michael K. Parenteau. Cherished grandfather of Jason Waltonen and his wife Niki, and Jessica Waltonen and her wife Deb Flood, adored great-grandfather of Drew, Harry, Olivia, and Sadie. Brother of Virginia Vestri, Phyllis Butmarc and the late Joseph A. Butmarc. He is survived by nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Hope Hospice and the staff on Kent fourth floor northwest. 

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by his Funeral Home Service at 6:00 p.m. Burial is respectfully private.
