81, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at South County Hospital, Wakefield. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann Marie (Hobson) Clays. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late August P. and Marguerite (Whalen) Clays. Richard was a teacher at Charlestown Elementary School for thirty years before his retirement. He was a US Army veteran. Dick was a graduate LaSalle Academy, Class of 1954 and Providence College, Class of 1958. He later received his master’s degree form URI. Dick was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church, and a longtime Narragansett youth sports coach. He enjoyed his retirement years in Bradenton, FL, playing tennis and riding his bike.
He is survived by his loving children, Patrick J. Clays and his companion Sharon Younkin of Westerly, John E. Clays and his wife Kelly of Cave Creek, AZ, Timothy J. Clays and his wife Michelle of Davidsonville, MD, Mary C. Sekator of Bradenton, FL, Peter A. Clays of North Kingstown, Monica L. Baney and her husband Thomas of Narragansett, and Paul H. Clays and his wife Traci-Ayn of Bristol. Dick was the cherished grandfather of thirteen. He was the brother of Alma Morin of Coventry, Robert Clays of Brick, NJ, and the late Gloria Hughes, Marguerite Poirier, Patricia Siner, and Judi Clays.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Wakefield. VISITING HOURS Wednesday 4-7 p.m. in the Nardolillo Funeral Home, SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, (Rte.1A) Narragansett.
