Richard Gallo, Ret. Det. CPD

75, of Smithfield, passed away Saturday October 31, 2026. He was the husband of Elaine (Buck) Gallo.

Born in Providence he was the son of the late Bruno and Muriel (Hitchins) Gallo.

He joined the CPD in 1972 and proudly served the department for 23 years. Retiring in 1995 with the rank of detective. He then served as National Vice President of NAGE/IBPO. He was also President of the Local 301 IBPO of Cranston. He received his Bachelor Degree from Salve Regina University.

Besides his wife he is survived by; his daughter Lisa Doherty and her husband Charles of Cumberland, his two sons; Richard Gallo Jr of Roanoke, VA and Peter Gallo of Smithfield; his grandchildren Jack and Kayla Doherty and his sister Kathleen Gallo-Ruiz and her husband Arthur of Braselton, GA.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 11am in St. John Vianney Church, Cumberland. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. VISITING HOURS Thursday 4-7pm in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Ave. Cranston. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the RISPCA, 155 Plan Way, Warwick, RI 02886.
