Robert J. Moretti passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Born in Providence on July 17, 1949, he was the beloved son of the late John A. and Emilia P. Moretti.
Bob was a devoted husband and father, whose greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia (Capaldi); his stepson, Andrew Fiorenzano; stepdaughter, Faith Irving, her husband, Michael Irving; and his cherished granddaughter, Ivy Rose Irving, who brought him endless happiness. He was the dear brother of the late Judith Moretti-DiPrete, an adoring uncle to Kristin Koopman and Stephanie Binder, and a proud great-uncle to Sophia, Emilia, Gianna, and Karina. Bob’s family was the center of his world, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who loved him.
Bob was an alumnus of Moses Brown School, class of 1967. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from The University of Rhode Island in 1973 and later earned a master’s degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Upon completing his education, he joined his family’s jewelry manufacturing business, The Clayton Company, located in the iconic Claverick Building—a historic structure built by the family in 1948 in the Providence Jewelry District. Bob’s dedication to his craft kept the business thriving in Providence even as the industry evolved and many jewelry manufacturers of the era faced closures or moved operations overseas. In 2012, he sold the building to Johnson & Wales University, which repurposed it as the Center for Physician Assistant Studies. Bob relocated the business to North Providence and remained actively involved until his passing.
Bob had a lifelong passion for golf and loved spending time on the course. For him, a day on the course was never "a good walk spoiled." He relished the camaraderie and challenge the game provided. Golf was more than a pastime for Bob; it was a source of joy and connection that he shared with many throughout his life. He was also an avid supporter of the URI golf team. Bob was equally passionate for URI Men’s Basketball, holding Rhody Ram season tickets for more than thirty years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 14, at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Apostles Church, Cranston. Burial to follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to URI Athletics, Men’s Varsity Basketball (Fast Break) or Men’s Varsity Golf (Ram Par) at alumni.uri.edu.
